Gallery: ANTONAS Wants to Convert Ordi...

We've seen some cool hostels on Inhabitat, like one in a treetop and even a few in converted airstreams, but we've yet to see one that actually roams around like the Bus Hotel conceived by ANTONAS. The philosophical designer proposes to turn a banal object into something that has a new function, in this case, a standard double decker bus transformed into a boutique bed and breakfast that is idea for travelers, researchers, and even residents of divided places such as Cyprus or Palestine.

ANTONAS suggests that the existing bus should be left untouched on the outside while the interior should be converted into 7 small rooms. There will also be a water closet and a living area, along with plenty of storage space and an area to prepare food.

This is the ultimate adaptive re-use project that caters to travelers who are constantly on the move for whatever reason. Although it has not yet been realized, this is completely feasible since people have been roaming around in mobile homes for almost as long as we’ve existed. The difference this time is that strangers will share what appears to be a fairly tight but inspiring space. If the Bus Hotel does come to pass, we’ll be the first to book a week’s stay!
