ADzero is the World's First Bamboo Smartphone
UK design student Kieron-Scott Woodhouse is preparing to launch ADzero – the world’s first smartphone made out of bamboo! Woodhouse told The Inquirer that he made the phone out of four-year-old organic bamboo that was treated for durability while he was studying at Middlesex University. An entrepreneur who specializes in tech products saw online pictures of the prototype, which currently runs on the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, and offered to provide financial backing. The ADzero will be available at select independent UK retailers by the end of 2012.
Bamboo is not only pleasing to look at but it is also one of the most durable materials in the world, making the ADzero significantly more sustainable than smartphones made of steel and plastic. It is bigger than the iPhone 4S but it weighs half as much and features a circular flash near the camera. Woodhouse originally planned to sell his bamboo phone in China but he received so much interest at London Design Week that he decided to change his tactic. Pricing details have not yet been released but we have a feeling that this smart new product is going to be a big hit.
