Gallery: Artist Kylie Stillman Carves Stacks of Books Into Classic Natu...

The works create a reminder of how objects we use each day come from the natural world and have been reconstructed to become something artificial.

Stillman’s artwork moves away from the boundaries of the books by crafting them into a new life, distorting their original form and use. She engraves the book like a slab of stone, as opposed to using it as a two-dimensional canvas.

The works create a reminder of how objects we use each day come from the natural world and have been reconstructed to become something artificial. For example Little Room, her 2007 installation, provided a new natural habitat for the book creatures and forms through the collection of book images.
