Equipo Olivares‘ Ca’Paco house is sensitive to the environment while reflecting the surrounding landscape. In fact, the home has its own topography with a driveway that sinks down to a lower level with canyon-like walls, wells and a variety of garden spaces. Visitors to the home enter through an intimate courtyard that features a luxurious lap pool with access to the kitchen and living room. The main floor features the public living areas as well as the master suite and another bedroom and bathroom. The lower level features storage, another courtyard with a welcoming orange tree, and an underground garage.

The home is built with local basalt rock that reflects the surrounding landscape and provides thermal mass. Thick walls absorb the sun’s heat and keep the interior cool despite the warm and humid climate. Windows and doors are placed to take advantage of the views, encourage natural ventilation and maximize daylight without overheating. Underfloor heating provides energy-efficient warmth during the winter as needed. Like a rocky cliffside covered in vegetation, the home’s roof is covered by soil and a carpet of plants. The roof is part of the garden that also includes a planted slope coming up from the garage level to the main floor.
