Gallery: Baumraum Breaks Ground on Its Awesome Schrems Treehouse Resort...

We have yet to come across a Baumraum treehouse that hasn't rocked our socks, so when we heard that they recently broke ground on the Schrems Treehouse Resort in Austria, we had to take a closer look. Sure enough, the team acquired a gorgeous piece of property on the site of an abandoned quarry that also overlooks a lake and the Naturpark Schrems Nature Reserve. The resort will be partitioned into 5 different sections, each of which will have its building or set of buildings. Some of these are timber structures that respect their natural environment, others are intrepid cliff houses, and yes, there will be two tree houses on the property's northern edge that are bound to become the most coveted rooms of all.

The best way to enjoy a site that still reflects nature’s instinctive proclivity for abundance is to stay in low-impact buildings that exist in total harmony with their surroundings. That’s a Baumraum credo for sure, if their numerous treehouses and other nature-friendly projects are anything to go by. Indeed, every inch of the Schrems resort has been modeled after naturally-occurring phenomenon on site. The angular cliff houses near the quarry are modeled after the rocks, the reception area and restaurant is huddled between Birch and Pine trees and overlooks the lake, and the tree houses are situated in the most heavily wooded section of the plot.

But Baumraum has even kept the quarry and attendant structures as an integral part of this area’s development. As such, a 15 meter tall tower that has 3 accessible storeys will be constructed near an existing crane pedestal, and 2 additional residential units will be built beside a natural stone wall. With so many tourist attractions nearby, this is an ideal spot for such an earth-friendly development. In fact, we’d love to be the first to snuggle up in either one of the tree houses or a cliff house when this project is complete.
