The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation supports work in education and global development to a degree that few other foundations can claim – and now it’s even taking on the problem of global agriculture production. In a speech on Thursday in Rome, Gates called on world leaders to join him in attempting to create a stable global food supply. Readers might want to check out the work of Dr. Vandana Shiva. I’ve written about her on my blog, where you can also listen to a podcast of a CBC Radio interview. It would be wonderful if the world could follow her lead.

U.S. soybean farmers are addressing the global crop yield challenge noted by Bill Gates. In fact, we are helping to increase food production by 50% by the year 2030, as directed by the United Nations. We are able to meet this need through biotechnology advances.

Crops improved through biotechnology have been shown to increase production by 7-10 times. At the same time there is a decrease in chemical applications and carbon emissions. And farmers earn higher incomes in every country that grows biotech crops, with the largest gains in the soybean sector.

Perhaps you should Google Bill Gates and Monsanto. Gates is in bed with them, and they are not about “stablizing” food, but rather controlling and monopolizing food. Certainly Inhabitat is aware of Monsatano’s bullying of farmers and all their other self-serving misdeeds including the pushing of frankenfoods and stifling those who resist them.
