Gallery: Blue Sky Homes Completes Elegant Steel Prefab Home In Yucca Va...

Palm Springs-based prefab builder, Blue Sky Homes has recently completed their latest project - a two-bedroom home in Yucca Valley outside of Palm Springs, CA. Designed by O2 Architecture, the light-gauge, high-tensile galvanized steel home has a small environmental footprint nestled in a rock outcropping and spanning a seasonal stream. Blue Sky Homes' prefab system makes use of 70% recycled steel and also allows the home to be fully recycled should it ever be torn down. In total, the home took 3 1/2 months to construct, which is much faster than standard stick-build construction.

    Okay that is one sleek design. BUT do you have any idea how HOT STEEL GETS IN THE SUMMER??! That structure will be uninhabitable for 5 months a year not to mention it’s a lightning rod for thunder storms. Plus if the ceiling windows don’t open you’re going to put all your energy into cooling.
