BMW is giving the world a glimpse of its future electric scooter with the BMW C evolution. The BMW C evolution scooter is a near-production prototype that BMW says may soon be released. The electric scooter was conceived as a future electric scooter that would be perfect for an urban environment. BMW set two goals for the C evolution scooter: to achieve performance figures that are comparable to those of a maxi scooter with a combustion engine and a long driving range.
The BMW C evolution scooter features an 8 kWh battery that powers an electric motor with 11 kW continuous output and a 35 kW peak output. The top speed is electronically limited to 75 mph and it has a range of 62 miles on a single charge. It takes about three hours to recharge the battery, using either a regular household outlet or a charging station. One innovative feature of the C Evolution is that it features a car-type charging socket – the fact that the charge socket is identical to the car standard means that the C evolution can be charged at charge stations throughout the U.S.
According to BMW, the scooter supremely handles motorway riding and overtaking — even with a passenger. It is also capable of effortless hill starts on steep slopes with a passenger. In terms of acceleration, from 0 to 37 mph it comfortably holds its own against current maxi scooters with a capacity of 600 cc or more.
BMW has not announced an on sale date for the C Evolution, but the company is currently testing the electric scooter in a pilot phase. In this pilot phase, the vehicles are being operated in real conditions of use and within areas that reflect their intended environment. The aim is to explore the infrastructure, such as establishing a network of e-mobility providers that might include vehicle rental companies and car-sharing firms.
