Gallery: Boeing’s Hypersonic Mach 6 WaveRider Jet Lost Over the Pacific...

 

The US is currently conducting test flights of a new X-51A WaveRider jet that is capable of hitting a top speed of Mach 6 (4,300mph / 6,900km/h) – which would allow it to travel from London to New York in just an hour! Unfortunately, a flight test of the hypersonic vehicle went awry today as a faulty control fin caused the craft to be lost over the Pacific.

    Once again blog-media conveniently forgets to mention the one thing that deters the news value. Nobody has a clue yet on how to construct a jet engine that transitions from normal jet via RAM to SCRAM. As long as we’re still dropping things from other craft at high speed, the one-hour trans-Atlantic dream is still just that: a dream.

    Sound like a good time to use multiple satellites to find it’s last whereabout and possible tradjectories that’s an expensive thing to lose.
