Gallery: Buijtenkeuken is a Mobile Kitchen for the Dutch Countryside

The kitchen was re-purposed out of an existing outdoor bakehouse

Part of a multi-year project that has five components (including an outdoor brewery, nursery and mini-hotel), Buijtenkeuken is designed to re-examine the relationship between human activities and the outdoors. The former bakehouse used to service people working in the surrounding countryside, while the swankier, renovated kitchen will be used to host dinners and workshops.

Carted around the country on a trailer wagon, Buijtenkeuken will allow celebrated food designers to explore new ways of preparing and preserving food within the constraints posed by the kitchen’s space and nomadic status. Gerbrand Dros helped to redesign the stove. This fascinating project joins the ranks of mobile pizzerias and pop-up restaurants that are completely redefining our relationship to food in the 21st century.
