Look Ma – no chain! Christian Vollmer, an industrial designer from Germany, has created an urban electric bike utilizing a pedelec system, meaning it has no need for a chain. Instead, it has a toothed belt which transfers clean power from the engine to the rear wheel. And it looks pretty darn snazzy too!
To save space, the entire system is housed between the peddles quite elegantly and unobtrusively. With everything in such a neat package there is little to mess up that neatly pressed suit on the way to a big meeting. While this clean form of transport for the urban go-getter is only in its concept phase, we can easily envision people zipping through the city streets atop all its chainless glory.
