Most of us don’t think twice about going home for the holidays, but this simple idea is impossible for millions of homeless people worldwide to even fathom. In Sweden, the Stockholm City Welfare Mission joined forces with the Swedish Museum of Architecture to call attention to the issue of homelessness this Christmas season. Under the campaign “Help us Break an Old Christmas Tradition,” the organizations are using the museum’s annual gingerbread house exhibit as a venue to explore what it means to be at home, and how more fortunate individuals can help the homeless.

The public was invited to submit gingerbread houses, which were judged by a panel that included the museum’s director, the Stockholm City Welfare Mission project manager, an architect, baker, and art collector. The tasty structures range from tiny towns to arctic landscapes and trailers to igloos.
