Gallery: Cube Pavilion: Mod Green Restaurant to Pop Up on Top of Europe...

Starting at the end of March in Brussels, some very lucky individuals may have a chance of a lifetime to dine on the rooftops of some very impressive buildings. Electrolux, makers of all things for the household, is sponsoring a cool new pop up restaurant as it tours around Europe making stops on top of rooftops, cliffs, monuments and maybe even the middle of a lake. The energy efficient and lightweight Cube Pavilion, designed by Italian architects Park Associati, has a dining room for 18 and a huge outdoor terrace to take in the sights. What kind of favors do you need to cash in to get reservations for something like this?

The Cube Pavilion is less of a cube and more of a pentagon divided into an open and flexible dining area with a serving area and visible kitchen, all of which wraps around an 50 sq meter terrace. Conceived as a pop-up module that can easily be built up and taken down, the Cube can easily be transported by train, boat, truck or even helicopter to access more remote cliff-side locations. Built for any climate, even for hot or cold locations, the pop up restaurant will be in use year round.

Lightweight materials will be used to construct the restaurant, for both ease of transportation and to have a light footprint on whatever rooftop the module is perched on. Part of the exterior is covered in a aluminum skin that has been laser-cut to create a texture with a geometric design that covers the whole of the outer surface. In addition, it uses materials that are highly innovative in terms of technology, eco-sustainability and energy saving and the building will be re-used many times as it travels around Europe.

As you might imagine, being sponsored by Electrolux, the whole point is to showcase their top of the line appliances and chefs from all over the continent will show off their skills with specially designed menus. The 140 sq meter restaurant will begin its travels April 1 on the arc of the Parc du Cinquantenaire in Brussles before moving along with a companion Cube, to Italy, Russia, Switzerland, and Sweden for 3 months stints at each.
