Gallery: Curvaceous Light Stage House in Hiroshima Makes the Most of an...

The furniture is built into the architecture

As with all things Japanese, the stout Light Stage House is a study in elegance and minimalism. The kitchen is compact and the interior furnishings have been built into the architecture which maximizes space and establishes a sense of gentle order and simplicity while the spiral staircase inside combined with the curved walls give this home an inviting sense of movement.

The bedrooms are downstairs and the living areas are upstairs. This intervention ensures that the family can rendevouz on the rooftop terrace and establish a connection with the city beyond at the same time that light pours into what would otherwise have been a dark expanse. The result is an unusual but striking home that has a gentle environmental footprint.
