Gallery: Danielle Trofe’s Live Screen Is a Self-Watering Wall Built for...

Apart from enabling the integration of greenery into indoor living spaces, Live Screen is a stand-alone structure and does not need a wall for support.

Apart from enabling the integration of greenery into indoor living spaces, Live Screen is a stand-alone structure and does not need a wall for support. It is also modular and can be easily customized to suit a space, as it varies in height, width, and number of pods.

What is most interesting about this design is the use of hydroponics for the planting system. Hydroponics is a soilless method of growing plants, where in the plant draws it necessary nutrients from the water, thus totally eliminating the need to use soil. Hydroponics is increasingly being used in agriculture these days due to its efficiency and sustainability.

With the Live Screen, the water is automatically distributed to the top tier through pumps and circulated by gravity. Each pod is also fitted with a LED light that not only offers ambient lighting, but ensures favorable conditions for the growth of plants.
