Want to help save the human race from zombies? You'll need a strong and lightweight mobile shelter to help you on your quest. The Vagabond Mobile Safehouse Device is a sustainable wind and solar powered shelter that you can carry on your back as you move through the city or countryside slaying zombies. Sleep safely underneath the dome and filter your own water to keep you sustained.

In order to defend against an attack from the undead, you’ll need a specially equipped house that first of all keeps out the brain hungry zombies. Then you’ll need a way to sustain yourself while inside and provide your own drinking water, grow food, and generate energy. Taking all this into account, the Zombie Safe House Competition provides a forum for zombie-proof architecture. Today is the last day to choose your favorite, so vote now and without further ado, read on for our favorite six designs from the competition.

There’s No Need To Run

When the zombie virus hits, it’ll come on quickly and you may not even have a chance to run. Instead fortify your nearest office building and turn it into a defensible fortress complete with rain water storage, indoor growing fields and living areas. This adaptable structure should prove worthy until the undead can be eradicated.

Zombie Ranch

While zombies may have a taste for human flesh, they’re also undead so they have a seemingly endless supply of energy. Why not harness that energy and put it to good use. Funnel the zombies into an underground wheel room where they will spin a generator to make energy for your above ground idyllic zombie-powered ranch.

Sleep safely underneath the dome and filter your own water to keep your thirst quenched.

WaterTower

Hole up in an easily fortified urban space like a water tower and adapt it to your cause. Already filled with water, it should be able to sustain you for some time with the addition of a few other key elements. The renovated space will easily be kept a secret for some time and should you come under heavy attack you can escape from the top via a hang glider.

Rooftop Retreat

Keep away from the zombie hoards by floating above them. The modular Rooftop Retreat provides space for living, food production, defense weapons and a fuel zone to power you away from danger. Solar power provides energy for the facility, while waste is used to generate fuel to power the flame throwers.

Oil Rig House

Transform an abandoned oil rig or LPG vessel into a sweet fortress. Outfit the super strong structure with solar, wind, bike and waste power and grow your own vegetables in a converted room. These disaster proof structures are also certain to repel any zombie attack, no matter how many of them them there are.

By far, the best route of survival is to bar/remove the first floor stairs. If you don’t have ready access to a commercial building, move your dry goods and water supply to the second floor of your home and destroy the stair case. Should you happen to be at work when the apocalypse happens, know your surroundings. For example, I know of a grocery store one block from my workplace that has barred windows. This will make for a super safe hide-out.
