DesignJunction 2012 Shows Innovative Works Crafted from Natural and Reclaimed Materials<a href="http://thedesignjunction.co.uk" target="_blank">DesignJunction</a> 2012 just kicked off at the <a href="http://www.londondesignfestival.com/" target="_blank">London Design Festival</a>, and The Sorting Office on New Oxford Street is full to bursting with dynamic furniture, lighting and installation pieces. From old drawers transformed into glowing lightboxes, to heavy-duty tires reclaimed as seats, and even a 25 foot gorilla made of reclaimed materials, there are a lot of sustainable works to be excited about at this year's show. Recycled Bed Spring Occupy Chair by Dejana Kabilijo at Designjunction 2012Architect and designer <a href="http://www.kabiljo.com" target="_blank">Dejana Kabiljo</a> is represented by the <a href="marionfriedmann.com" target="_blank">Marion Friedmann Gallery </a>where she presents 'Occupy! Chair' which uses military Yugoslavian bed springs to create this gold lacquered armchair. Her Viennese brand Kabiljo Inc. designs and produces objects with little fetishes, bad habits and obsessions. The piece originates from former Yugoslavian army beds being heaped on military flea markets, questioning our aesthetic and political demands on design.2
Paraqueet Sideboard by Lucy Turner at Designjunction 2012Designer <a href="http://www.lucyturner.co" target="_blank">Lucy Turner</a> presents the 'Parakeet' sideboard, the Cornwall designer specialises in customizing reclaimed mid-century furniture with her own fresh and clever use of laser cut Formica® laminate.3
Recycled Drawer Lightbox by LIlly's Lightbox Company at Designjunction 2012Felicia Strehmel of <a href="http://www.lillyslightboxcompany.com" target="_blank">Lilly's Lightbox Company</a> restores old drawers into retro lightboxes. The simple yet clever trick uses upturned drawers, thick perspex and an energy saving lightbulb to create this unique illuminated wall art. "While some drawers are restored to their original beauty, others are left with historic marks or changed entirely to give them a new lease of life. Large light boxes are made from the cross-section of an entire chest of drawers and can be up to 120cm x 120cm in size." Says Lilly.4
Benjamin Hubert Lamps at Designjunction 2012Lighting and furniture designer <a href="http://www.benjaminhubert.co.uk" target="_blank">Benjamin Hubert</a> presents a beautiful display of his lamp series showcasing the natural materials in the raw format prior to construction.5

Twig Stools by Pinch Design at Designjunction 2012<a href="http://www.pinchdesign.com" target="_blank">Pinch Design</a> showcased their 'Twig Stools' which also come in longer benches as well as architectural wall panels of varying sizes, made from British Ash, exposing the end grain like this really shows off the timber at it's best.7
Recycled Tire Furniture by Rene Oliver at Designjunction 2012Recent graduate Rene Olivier present the Tyre Furniture Collection, the creative re-use of found tyres.8
Recycled Tire Gorilla at Designjunction 2012Recent Furniture Design & Technology graduate <a href="http://www.rene-olivier.com/" target="_blank">Rene Olivier</a> presents the Tyre Furniture Collection, the creative re-use of discarded bus, lorry and car tyres. The 'seat' comes with a detachable metal frame which is an 'any size fits all' configuration, allowing the user to source their own tyres removing the need for postage and packaging.9
