Known in the art world as “The Crayola Crayon Carver”, Diem has had her works exhibited all over the US and was commissioned last year by Nike to create a crayon set of carved soccer players for the company’s promotion of the World Cup 2010. The latter project was especially intensive as Diem had 18 days to make around 70 crayons for the project. There was a week she only slept 3 hours a night, but the results were impressive. While the set may not resemble each player exactly, we sure recognized Ronaldo when we saw him!

As a Vietnam native, Diem Chau’s work also delves into storytelling, myths, and their ability to connect people with each other through cultural and humanistic similarities. Her choice of crayons for her artwork was due in part to their low cost.
