Dom Aquitectura Unveils Green Master Plan to Clean Air and Reduce Pollution in Huizhou, China

<a href="http://www.dom-arquitectura.com" target="_blank">Dom Arquitectura</a>’s master plan for Huizhou, China optimizes <a href="http://inhabitat.com/xishuangbanna-residence-is-a-sustainable-modern-bamboo-high-rise-in-china/" target="_blank">green space and vertical gardens</a> to create a lush living space with ample fresh air. Two rows of terraced residential towers are staggered in lines around giant green spaces, allowing for the natural flow of both air and pedestrian traffic. The master plan creates a sustainable new neighborhood that takes advantage of renewable energy and <a href="http://inhabitat.com/arkadien-winnenden-is-a-family-earth-friendly-eco-village-near-stuttgart-germany/" target="_blank">rainwater harvesting</a> and fights back against Huizhou’s pollution and hot climate.

With respect to the practice of feng shui, the neighborhood is laid out to coincide with energy and air flow.

After thoroughly studying the land and climate of the region, Dom Arquitectura chose the project’s location based on routes between Huizhou and nearby Bolou.

To help combat the emissions caused by the traffic route, as well as alleviate the hot climate, each of the twenty residential towers offer its residents plenty of balcony space, <a href="http://inhabitat.com/foster-partners-breaks-ground-on-green-roofed-hongqiao-vantone-sunnyworld-centre-in-shanghai/" target="_blank">planted heavily with greenery</a>.

Each façade is also covered with a <a href="http://inhabitat.com/gorgeous-wood-wrapped-alesia-museum-opens-in-burgundy-france/" target="_blank">latticed double skin</a>, which insulates the interior and can be planted with more greenery.

These plants along with the balcony plants act as giant air filters that suck up carbon dioxide and help lower temperatures. The green terraces also create a green visual line that gives the illusion of a heavily forested area.

The residential towers are joined by a mall, a hotel, and a shorter apartment building that are <a href="http://inhabitat.com/pelli-clarke-pellis-arboleda-urban-village-in-monterrey-mexico-integrates-smart-growth-and-green-design/" target="_blank">arranged around a large green park</a>. The complex utilizes rainwater harvesting to self irrigate, as well as both wind and solar energy to operate cleanly. The Huizhou master plan is an innovative sustainable community that reacts to the ever changing climate.
