Gallery: Dreamy Panchoran Retreat is Made Old Telephone Poles and Bambo...

Despite the architecture being responsible and guilt-free, guests at Panchoran won't be at any loss for indulgences. Would you expect any less from the woman who gives Bowie design advice?

Tucked away within 25 acres of bamboo and coconut palm groves near Ubud, Bali, Panchoran is a little piece of paradise and the perfect way for anyone who is tired of taking elevators and getting stuck in revolving doors to reboot. You won’t find any cold metal or harsh fluorescent lighting here. Everything is warm, inviting and made of natural materials, most of which are either recycled or locally sourced. The five open-air guest villas are constructed from a combination of former Ironwood telephone poles that were purchased from the local government, and bamboo and native grasses taken right from the resort’s backyard.

Despite the architecture being responsible and guilt-free, guests at Panchoran won’t be at any loss for indulgences. Would you expect any less from the woman who gives Bowie design advice? Each airy bungalow is decked out with a cushy bed and linens, heavenly bathrooms and rare Javanese antiques and primitive art native to the area. And if you grow restless in your room, you can explore inside the bamboo groves, take a dip in the stream-like pool or try a taste of the raw delicacies and fresh Indonesian specialties in the Panchoran kitchen.

Guilt-free. Some of the worst things are guilt free. Is it guilt free when Leonardo DiCaprio buys carbon credits to offset his private jet. Why not just fly commercial like everyone else. The irrational fear of AIDS that stifles guilt-free enjoyment of sex may prove more destructive in the long run than the AIDS virus itself. Sociopaths are guilt-free and unconnected to constraints that a conscience provides. Their are really two types of Guilt-free. Guilt-free as in “I don’t give a shit” and Guilt-free as in “Theirs no real harm in what I’m doing so why should I worry”. One is unconscious while the other is analytical.

Not to go out of ones way. But what’s the environmental cost of just getting there to begin with. Then of course you have to bring the food in, provide hot water, laundry and cooking. Tourists are eventually gonna get bored and gonna want to ride around in ATV’s or off-road vehicles. They will demand various luxuries and so forth and all those things have to be shipped in to an otherwise remote location.
