Gallery: Modern Green Social Housing Complex Rises East of Paris

This new environmentally-sensitive social housing project in Bondy, France provides a beautiful series of apartments for 34 relocated families. Atelier du Pont (a member of the Plan01 collective) designed the U-shaped residential building, which provides naturally daylit, energy-efficient apartments for low-income families through the social organization Immobilière3F. Private balconies, a protected courtyard, and a grove of old trees make this project a charming place to live.

Located on a site in Bondy, a town east of Paris, the new social housing project is bordered by a gymnasium, school and suburban housing on avenue Henri Barbusse. The four-story building is shaped like a U, creating a protected interior courtyard and garden space for use by the residents. The roof of the building is reminiscent of traditional Parisian row houses with lofted ceilings. Daylighting and passive solar design plays a large role in each of the apartments and every room has access to natural light.
