The materiality of the home reflects the Pacific Northwest’s unique style of contemporary architecture. The Ellis Residence’s interior material palette is a mixture of stained concrete flooring, concrete block walls, rich natural wood, and painted gyp board. Natural daylight floods the interior living spaces of the home, and views are found in wonderful locations such as the master bathtub. Coates Design created a warm and innovative space for the Ellis family to live.
As a one of the first LEED Platinum homes in the Northwest, the Ellis Residence has given Coates Design a plethora of good press. It won the 2011 Dream Home Award, the Best Innovation in Green Technology award, and the 2010 Bath of the Year from Seattle Homes and Lifestyles. Matthew Coates, founder of Coates Design, continues to be one of the most sought-after green architects in the Northwest. Congratulations to Coates Design.
