Gallery: Capella Garcia’s Flourishing Green Wall Brings a New Form of “...

A pulley system makes it easy to maintain the plants without hiring an elevator crane

The green side-wall is constructed of prefabricated galvanized steel that is constructed on site and boasts an interior set of stairs that makes access to the various levels of platforms easier than standard living walls. This combined with an embedded pulley system that is used to transport maintenance materials mitigates the expense associated with keeping regular vertical gardens alive as it is no longer necessary to hire elevated cranes to do the job.

Drip irrigation and controlled drainage conserves water consumption, while fertilizer is administered in programmed doses. An acoustic screen and a carbon sponge, Capella Garcia’s green wall is also equipped with nesting boxes that provide shelter for urban birds, and that’s just downright cool! Big advocates of living walls, we are very pleased to see so many new variations come to light, though this one in Barcelona will be hard to top!
