Glimmering, Pixelated MUCA Music Center Shines in Southern Spain

A stunning monolithic structure rests at the base of the marble quarries in the small municipality of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Algue%C3%B1a">Algueña</a> in Alicante, Spain. This shimmering music hall set amidst the region's rural landscape was designed by <a href="http://www.cor.cc/">Cor &amp; Asociados</a> to bring music and culture together in one center. The MUCA Music Hall and House is composed of three outer walls tiled with a pearl-white surface. The building's pixelated facade is dazzling under the midday sun, glimmering beautifully depending on how the light changes.

The architects consulted with local residents to find out what they desired and tried to meet local needs while working with a maximum budget of €562,800.

They developed a new 230-seat auditorium to host local festivals and music lessons, taking care to create a shape that would provide good acoustics.

The award-winning design already has future development prospects ahead.

Beginning by converting the disused headquarters of the Civil Guard, the architects designed a building around a central U-shaped courtyard, transforming it into a series of classrooms and rehearsal spaces.

Opening out onto a landscaped courtyard, the space provides ample room for additional guests and visitors.

The architects propose to reserve a green zone beside the building in order to develop an open-air auditorium and a garden.
