Moshe Safdie, designer of the famous Habitat 67, has taken his classic design element, the pixel, and updated it for a massive residential complex in Qinhuangdao, China. Golden Dream Bay is a pixelated dream of sky gardens, rooftop pools, sky bridges and green pathways running along the beach. Safdie, much like Bjarke Ingels of BIG, likes to provide each of his residences with access to views and private garden space.

Safdie's green-roofed residential development will hold 2,200 condominiums.

The project was designed for 2nd homes for families wanting a beach escape and primary homes for families of Qinhuangdao.

The development is composed of a series of four towers angled towards the beach and connected together via sky bridges.

Private and public gardens will help create a lush garden environment.

All of the apartments located on the stair step section of each tower, open up to their own green-roofed private deck and enjoy views of the beach and environs.

The beachfront community is designed to rethink urban living and is organized around a north and south beach boardwalk as well as an east and west bazaar-like spine.

These integral pathways provide connections within the community as well as to the neighboring communities and the beach.

Looking down on the development, the pixelated forms are dotted with green roofs, gardens and pools.

The project is slated for completion in 2014.
