More than just a pretty building with a swooping green roof, the new Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama is well on its way to achieving BREEAM Excellent. BFLS Architecture won a 2007 international competition to create this massive, 4,400 m² facility which cost £22.5 million to build. Although costly, the private and publicly-funded galleries, halls, theaters, and foyers are heated and cooled using ground source technology, which slashes its energy consumption. An insulating green roof and a host of other interventions make this project an excellent candidate for BREEAM's sustainable ranking!
