Gorgeous Green-Roofed Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama Seeks BREEAM Excellent

More than just a pretty building with a swooping green roof, the new <a href="http://www.vp360.co.uk/RWCMD/index_standalone.html">Royal Welsh College of Music &amp; Drama</a> is well on its way to achieving <a href="http://www.breeam.org/">BREEAM Excellent</a>. <a href="http://www.bfls-london.com/en/royal-welsh-college-of-music-and-drama/">BFLS Architecture</a> won a 2007 international competition to create this massive, 4,400 m² facility which cost £22.5 million to build. Although costly, the private and publicly-funded galleries, halls, theaters, and foyers are heated and cooled using <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geothermal_heat_pump">ground source technology</a>, which slashes its energy consumption. An <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_roof">insulating green roof</a> and a host of other interventions make this project an excellent candidate for BREEAM's sustainable ranking!
