England’s weather is about as far from tropical as possible — except within the bubble of this amazing “Heart of Africa” biodome coming soon to the Chester Zoo. The 112 foot-high zoological attraction will simulate the rainforest habitats of the African Congo.
The biodome will cover 172,000 square feet and will be home to a number of animals, including a band of gorillas, a troop of chimpanzees, okapi ( giraffe-like creatures), birds, amphibians, reptiles, fish, and invertebrates. A water ride will show off animal enclosures, and a jungle canopy will flourish above visitors’ heads.
When it is opened in 2014, the biodome is expected to be Europe’s biggest conservation and animal attraction. We can only hope that the attraction inspires environmental action among visitors!

For those that were asking about the ‘heart’ of it, its congo the heart of africa. Congo is located exactly in the middle of africa hence the heart of africa. Yes this is all very exciting but there are problems, why dont you help the issues going on in the congo right now than making a replica of it ignoring the enviromental AND social issues of the rainforest. AND the congo rainforrest is so breath taking that i highly doubt this will be even half as amazing, no offence. But it’s good that you want to make a replica anyway, since its expensive to visit the congo rainforrest. You should help the people of Congo pick themselves up in the process as well though…
yea like they sed wat heat is it at?
what heat is it at?
need more info on rainforest
This construction project allows our communities to come in close contact with the flora and fauna found only in Africa. Hopefully, this anticipated closer encounter with nature from another part of our planet will spur our collective consciousness to becoming more aware about the environments’ state of health.
This is very exciting! Chster Zoo is already brilliant. I can’t wait to watch the progress of this project.
This is very exctiing!. Chester Zoo is already brilliant. I look forward to watching the progress of this project.
just wondering WHY built up a bio tropical african congo rain forest dome in the UK?
It’s maybe amazing…but that’s all and surely not enough to justify such a big waste, energies consumptions, emissions etc.
just wondering WHY…
whatever…
