IKEA, that patent purveyor of all things flat-pack just announced that it has just teamed up with Velorbis to offer an exciting new service to its Danish customers: bike trailers. The arrangement will supply IKEA stores with a fleet of free trailer bikes, giving Danes an eco-friendly way to haul their housewares home and proving, once again, that Denmark rocks the bike lane.

    what throws me about this post is that if they put tongues and bigger wheels on their shopping carts, they would have longer lived shopping carts AND have all the capabilities of the bike trailer. This post is a gimmickry that demonstrates a lack of such integrated thinking. Can IKEA think outside the box? Can IKEA discover better design through BALLER QUEST BICYCLES & EQUIPMENT?

    I have built a few shopping cart trailers myself. My customers tend to lock the trailer aoutside, and use the supermarket cart, when they could just drop the trailer and roll into the store directly. One of my customers tried it once, but the janitor pulled rank on him, it was quite ridiculous.
