Using his amazing talent for creating complex geometric objects,
Nick Sayers gives new life and function to common household objects. Inspired by the DIY lamp
iQ Light shade kits, Sayers created this incredible pendant lamp made from 270 precisely slotted playing card! Sayers bends and locks together the repeating forms to mold the beautiful glowing sphere.
This year we have seen many examples of household objects turned into spectacular lamps, but we have added appreciation for the calculations needed to making this perfect math puzzle. From an artistic viewpoint, one could even make a connection between the endless, interlocking shapes of the lamp and the principles of green design (and a complete loop for the use of materials) – it is very inspiring!
Nick Sayers is a professional graphic and web designer, and he has created an incredible range of upcycled spheres made from cards, measuring tape, zip ties, and coffee stirrers. Sayers has even created spheres made from used home sale signs that are large enough to serve as a temporary shelter.
