Inhabitat Reports From ICFF 2010!

This weekend Inhabitat took the <a href="http://inhabitat.com/icff-2009/">International Contemporary Furniture Fair</a> by storm, sifting through thousands of exhibitors to bring you the greatest green designs from this year's show! This landmark event marks the epicenter of <a href="http://inhabitat.com/new-york-design-week/">New York Design Week</a>, and we were thrilled to see the show floor brimming with fresh new sustainable designs. From stunning energy-efficient lighting solutions to ingenious examples of material reuse to clever convertible furnishings that save space, read on for our favorite finds from ICFF 2010!

Team Inhabitat hit the scene at the Javits center to check out this year's <a href="http://inhabitat.com/new-york-design-week/">International Contemporary Furniture Fair</a>.

We were drawn to these stunning <a href="http://www.inhabitots.com/2010/05/17/glowing-hexagonal-crystal-led-light-is-a-lamp-puzzle-toy-all-in-one/">Crystal Light LED lamps</a> by <a href="http://www.qisdesign.com/">QisDesign</a> like moths to flame. The <a href="http://www.inhabitots.com/2010/05/17/glowing-hexagonal-crystal-led-light-is-a-lamp-puzzle-toy-all-in-one/">modular LED Crystal Lights</a> snap together using magnets and so you can link up as many or as few as you like to create brilliant displays!

Salvadoran designer <a href="http://www.eugeniomenjivar.com/">Eugenio Manjivar</a> showcased his eye-catching set of orchid lamps created completely from recycled plastic bottles!

Creative Japanese designer <a href="http://www.gdotplus.com/">Dasuke Hirawa</a> wowed us this year with a stunning design that recycles mundane household materials into a brilliant creation: his brillo pad chandelier takes the form of a luminous cloud floating in the sky.

<a href="http://www.plankodesign.com/">Dan Planko</a>'s charming deer heads wall trophies are made from reclaimed furniture bits and are just the thing to add log cabin flair to any room without hurting any real animals. Plus, they are way more adorable!

This year we were amused to see the faux-deer-head trope resurrected again! We spotted a bunch of quirky new takes on the traditional deer head trophy that re-imagine the motif into a variety of fun new animal-friendly forms. This clever reinterpretation is a mirror, lamp and wall decoration all in one.

Sung Kug Kim unveiled this interesting set of antler bicycle handlebars that double as a cruelty-free wall trophy.

<a href="http://www.paperself.com/">Paperself</a> showcased this beautiful modular cardboard lamp, next to a rather wacky set of <a href="http://www.ecouterre.com/15079/chinese-paper-cuttings-make-artful-false-eyelashes/">paper false eyelashes</a>. Dubbed the transformer, the chandelier design is fully recyclable, packs flat to ship, and can be easily customized by adding or removing cardboard pyramids.

<a href="http://www.koodb.com/">Koo</a> unveiled an ingenious bassinet that transforms into a comfortable rocking chair for a parent: perfect for bleary-eyed new moms during late night feeding sessions. Boy I wish this thing existed when I had a newborn!

<a href="http://www.koodb.com/">Koo</a>'s transforming bassinet folds out into a rocking chair for an adult. This transforming chair was designed with new parents in mind, to help smooth the gears on the exhausting late-night feeding sessions.

These colorful kids chairs by <a href="http://www.hecmec.jp/hp_english/eco.html">HecMec</a> are made of paper and resin, making them incredibly easy to recycle.

We spotted these vases at the <a href="http://newcaribbeandesign.com/">New Caribbean Design</a> booth and really liked their simple natural aesthetic. When we investigated further, we found out that they're actually made of real tobacco leaves!

<a href="http://projecthdesign.org/">Project H Design</a> rolled right up to the <a href="http://www.metropolismag.com/cda/">Metropolis Magazine booth</a>, marking the final stop on their <a href="http://www.designrevolutionroadshow.com/">Design Revolution Roadshow</a>! The silver bullet trailer showcased a set of ingenious humanitarian design solutions.

Project H's <a href="http://designrevolutionroadshow.com/">Design Revolution Roadshow</a> showcased Marti Guixe's ingenious roll of tape that can be wrapped around any object to create an instant soccer ball.

These lovely hanging lamps are made from <a href="http://www.originalbtc.com">ceramic teapots illuminated from within</a>. We would have liked them better if the teapots were reclaimed from thrift stores instead of cast new, but we're inspired by the idea nonetheless.

We were super excited to see model <a href="http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/showtracker/2008/04/americas-next-1.html">Claire Unabia</a> (eco-warrior mama!) from America's Next Top Model showing off the "Like It" storage system at one of the booths in the Japan by Design Section.

<a href="http://brcdesigns.com/">BRC Designs</a> showcased a comfortable chair crafted entirely from cut-up playing cards salvaged from Las Vegas casinos.

These animal-shaped erasers by <a href="http://www.kikkerland.com/">Kikkerland</a> serve as an eye-opener for the user about endangered species. Every time you use one, a little piece of the animal wears away.

NYC Raw repurposed standard newspaper bins into a series of illuminated light boxes that fill functions ranging from terrariums to fish tanks.

Ben Huggin's sleek flat-pack table at the <a href="http://newbritishdesign.com/">New British Design</a> booth caught our attention with its interesting modern shape.

<a href="http://www.molodesign.com/">Molo</a> showcased their luminous series of cloud-like lamps made from sheets of expanding honeycomb paper.

At first glance, these delicate chandeliers look like crystal, but they're actually made from draped ball chain.

Inhabitat favorite <a href="http://areaware.com/">Areaware</a> came to ICFF in full effect once again. Their booth featured a ton of exciting merchandise ranging from <a href="http://www.kielmead.com/about.html">Kiel Mead</a>'s repurposed birdie lamps to <a href="http://www.inhabitots.com/2009/01/09/david-weeks%E2%80%99-sustainable-wood-simian/">David Weeks</a> sustainably crafted animal figures to their iconic golden pig.
