Weaving dry bark, willow, catkin and even lichen encrusted birch twigs, basket maker Joe Hogan makes contemporary organic containers with materials he finds rights at home. Based in Loch na Fooey, Ireland, he has been making baskets from locally sourced materials since 1978. Using only biodegradable organic matter, he grows the plants he needs for his craft or forages them while on his daily walks around the beautiful Irish countryside. Hogan, a master of basketry, also gives courses on basketmaking and curates exhibitions promoting this ancient local craft. Unique, made-to-order and functional, Joe Hogan’s one-of-a-kind creations will stand the test of time.
