Housewares retailer Owen Lawrence recently made way for La Mediterranea, a line of table top items made from 100% recycled glass. La Mediterranea converts 5 million kilos (11 million pounds!) of glass each year salvaged from Spain’s urban recycling bins into glasses, goblets, vases, plates, and more in a dozen patterns and 15 delightful hues. Designed and crafted in Valencia, Spain since 1975, the process combines computerized manufacturing with artisan glassblowing techniques.
La Mediterranea is also ISO 9001 certified by the International Organization for Standardization for quality products and effective production. This means that each piece comes with a tried-and-true quality guarantee, and the line is affordable to boot, with glasses under 8 bucks and 5-piece plate sets for $123. The dishware is currently available online through Owen Lawrence and in Atlanta at their brick and mortar retail outlet.

I am so glad that you told us that 5M kg is 11M pounds. Otherwise, we would never know that.
Quality system certification (ISO 9001) doesn\’t mean that product is \’quality guarantee\’, but that all company processes – purchasing, production, training, etc – are under control. Then, certification is given not by ISO (that established the standard) but by an independent certification company.
