Architecture firm Koning Eizenberg helped to give the three building complex a much needed update, while preserving historical aspects, from the late 1990s. Clad in sherbert hues-pastel oranges, blues and the signature retro-mint green, the Avalon offers a taste of old Hollywood luxury in a modern city.

Koning Eizenberg made sure to stay true to the original architecture of the three buildings, unifying them with cohesive design. Historical preservation was as important to the clients as bringing the buildings up to code. The architects took a design lead from the curved corner building, letting its aerodynamic design be the basis for the hotel’s entire rehab.

Being L.A., most of the hotel’s social activities take place poolside, so Koning Eizenberg made it a space of luxury. Located in the central courtyard of the Avalon, several floors of hotel suites overlook the pool area. Private cabana areas are located around the walls with privacy curtains that can be drawn at any time. White leather sectionals and furniture continue the mid-century modern feel.
