Gallery: John Lautner Turns 100

John Lautner’s architecture has become an iconic backdrop to the mid-century architecture movement in the City of Los Angeles. His homes have played starring roles in movies such as Charlie’s Angeles, Diamonds Are Forever, The Big Lebowski, and was more recently featured as Tony Stark’s residence in Iron Man. As an apprentice to infamous architect, Frank Lloyd Wright, Lautner’s architecture has laws promoted harmony between human habitation and the natural world. His designs are sympathetic and well integrated into their sites, and he made a distinct effort to design buildings and furnishing to be a part of a larger, unified whole that expands into the environment. The John Lautner 100 series will seek to educate the public about the importance of preserving Lautner’s architecture, which has been lauded for its sustainable features and inspirational design. The celebration starts this week and continues into November. The full schedule of events is available after the jump.
