Gallery: Lexus May Actually Produce the LF-LC Hybrid Sports Coupe Conce...

Lexus’s big debut ride at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show was the smoking hot LF-LC hybrid sports coupe concept, which was meant to show off the future design direction of the Lexus brand. The hybrid coupe concept not only gave us a glimpse at future Lexus models, but it also displayed the automaker’s vision of what a premium sport coupe would look like through their eyes. The feedback from the concept has been overwhelmingly positive and now there is a chance that Lexus could actually put the coupe into production.

Initially Toyota and Lexus’s senior management insisted that the hybrid concept was only a concept, but at the European launch of the car at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show earlier this month, Lexus product planning chief Karl Schlicht told Autocar something different.

“A decision has not been taken,” Schlicht said. “But we’re now up to a 50 percent chance from a zero per cent one. Every top Toyota Motor Company manager is aware of the great reception it has received and now we’re talking about how we can do it and fit it into the product plan.”

According to Schlicht if the proposal for a dramatic Lexus coupe had been presented to Toyota’s management without the concept, the proposal would have probably been dismissed. But thanks to the designers at Toyota’s Calty Design Center, we have the sexy LF-LC hybrid sports coupe concept that’s been winning over Toyota’s upper management, dealers and the public.
