Gallery: LIKE Architect’s LEDscape is an Interactive Maze of Glowing LE...

Over the holidays LIKE Architects were hard at work on a new lighting installation as part of a scheme to introduce IKEA's new LED Ledare light bulb. LEDscape combines thousands of IKEA lamps and bulbs into an interactive maze at the Belém Cultural Centre in Lisbon, Portugal. The temporary installation was so popular that the initial run of a few weeks was extended through the 2012 holiday season.

LIKE Architects has worked with IKEA before last year when they took thousands of plastic bag dispensers to create “Frozen Trees”. Their latest project was part of a plan to introduce IKEA’s line of energy efficient LED bulbs – specifically the Ledare Bulb series, which uses at most 8.5 W per bulb.

LEDscape is made up of 1,200 Ledare bulbs and 1,200 Hemma floor lamp bases in a range of heights. The result is a dizzying array of lights arranged in a maze so visitors can walk through the installation. The lights were installed in a way that at night they would slowly turn on and then pulse to create a constantly evolving scene. Situated in a courtyard of the entro Cultural de Belém in Lisbon, LEDscape delighted visitors throughout the holiday season.
