A 3.4-second 0-60 mph acceleration time is usually the province of exotic supercars, but an electric go-kart from truck maker Linde Material Handling just achieved that time to set a new Guinness World Record in Oschersleben, Germany. The record, a brand-new category for fastest 0-60 acceleration time by an electric go-kart, was set by a specially designed electric kart called the Linde E1, which uses a drive unit normally housed in lift trucks.
The Linde E1 pairs this drive motor with a special lithium-ion battery and low body weight to achieve the impressive acceleration recorded by Guinness World Records. The record attempt was part of the Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club Gran Turismo Masters Weekend, an auto-racing competition sponsored by the German ADAC automotive club.

I am safety official at a club-level kart race track and I can say that I would welcome all-electric karts. Though the noise and smell of race day is part of the charm, after a while the constant buzzing of 125cc 2-stroke motors and fumes can give one a headache.
