Santa Monica-based LivingHomes has launched the C6.2, an affordable prefab house that is certified LEED Platinum. Previously, LivingHomes had introduced the C6, an affordable three-bedroom home, but the company rolled out this smaller version for homeowners who want a smaller and more energy-efficient option. The sleek, two-bedroom, two-bathroom home is a good fit for smaller infill lots common in cities or for eco-conscious homeowners who want to save on construction and installation costs.

    This article illustrates how the world of prefab homes is stuck in the same deceptive marketing practices that has worked on prefab end buyers for years. I can’t believe they are trying this in articles intended for builders though. Is this a press release or is the writer sucked into this too? The cost per square foot game is annoying. I actually am quite interested in prefab so I am not just sour grapes about factory housing. This \\\”$145 per square foot\\\” house is going to come out at about $181,000 of pure bricks and mortar construction costs according to the numbers in the article. So thats $181 psf. How about building permits and utility hook up, basic landscaping? Realistically, this house will fly right through $200/sf. In some localities that might be a good price. How about writing an article that give some comparisons that are useful? Such as XYZ builder says he delivers these houses for $x, where stick built equivalents were costing him $Y to deliver. If you want to get builders interested, speak the language.
