Shake Shack-Shift DesignAfter construction is complete and the temporary wall is taken down, Shake Shack will donate the plants and planters to the Rittenhouse Square Flower Market for Children’s Charities.1
Shake Shack PhillyPhiladelphia is getting its first Shake Shack and while the eatery is being prepared, a lush vertical garden masks the site so as not to create an eyesore for locals. Designed by Philly-based Shift_Design, the living wall installation covers up the unsightly construction zone and boring plywood walls and instead brings a pop of green to the neighborhood. Both Shake Shack and Shift_Design are committed to sustainable business practices and this living wall is just another example of their eco ethos.2

Shake Shack-Shift DesignUntil its complete, they've got a temporary wall up around the construction site.4
Shake Shack-Shift DesignBut rather than let that be a boring old plywood wall, they asked Philadelphia-based designers and living installation fabricators, Shift_Design, to create a totally unique living wall to cover the construction site.5
Shake Shack-Shift DesignThe vertical garden is reminiscent of the burger shack's first permanent kiosk which was covered in ivy to make it more harmonious with its location in Manhattan.6
Shake Shack-Shift DesignShift_Design's installation features an array of custom panels and planters made from recycled steel filled with varying types of ivy, seasonal flowers, trailing vines, and evergreen shrubs.7
Shake Shack-Shift DesignThe installation and the signage gives passerby something more pleasant to look at and breathes a little fresh air into the busy street.8
