Mandala Homes has been building homes since 2000 with the the goal of giving their clients unique places of inspiration built from sustainable materials and energy efficient by design. Their latest home is a showcase home for the company’s owners and features all their latest tricks.

The Chose-Ross Residence is 2,300 square feet with three bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, a workshop, two outdoor rooms, and a storage room. Featuring solar passive design, large overhangs, and a high performance envelope, the round home is well designed to withstand the cold winters and sunny summers.

The home also features LED and CFL lighting, HRV, skylights, solar tubes, an ICF foundation, and Energy Star appliances. As for materials, the it was built with locally-sourced Western Red Cedar siding, trim and ceilings, fir post and beams, as well as cork flooring, ceramic tile, fir trim, Yolo and Natura no-VOC paints, and no-VOC finishes from EcoCrete and Vermont Natural.

Mandala Homes designs and fabricates the shells of homes and can ship them anywhere. This includes the floor and roof systems, exterior walls, windows and hardware, interior cedar siding, a central skylight, and doors. The client and his contractor are responsible for site work, material transport and finishing. The prefab shells run anywhere between $60 – $90 per square foot.
