Mercado Palhano: A Beautiful Brazilian Eco-Market Adorned with Sexy Sliding Louvers

Londrina, Brazil is home to the gorgeous new Palhano Eco-Market, a bright green gathering place adorned by chic sliding louvers and hanging roof gardens. Designed by <a href="http://www.guilhermetorres.com/">Studio Guilherme Torres</a>, the <a href="http://www.usgbc.org/DisplayPage.aspx?CategoryID=19">LEED</a>-worthy market was a bit of a challenge to put together with its low-lying design dictated by height restrictions and quite a bit of unattractive infrastructure to hide. But you'd never know that looking at it, would you?

Studio Guilherme Torres wanted to put Londrina, Brazil on the map

A relatively obscure part of the country, Londrina's community was in need of uplifting

The Palhano Eco-Market does just that by aggregating commerce in a friendly, semi-enclosed setting

The project aims to become LEED-certified

All locally-sourced and natural materials were used.

Water will be managed carefully - thanks to help provided by an environmental consultancy group

The building is well lit and ventilated, naturally

There are plenty of green areas throughout the rehabilitated complex, which we hope will usher in a new era of sustainable development in the city!
