Method Homes Completes Traditional Craftsman-Style Doe Bay Prefab Cottage on Orcas Island

<a href="http://inhabitat.com/architecture/prefab-housing/">Prefab</a> does not necessarily mean modern or contemporary. Just take a look at Method Homes' latest project - the craftsman-style <a href="http://methodhomes.net/portfolio/doe-bay/" target="_blank">Doe Bay Cottage</a> on Orcas Island. Responding to a market segment interested in more traditional architecture, <a href="http://inhabitat.com/tag/method-homes" target="_blank">Method Homes</a> and <a href="http://www.s-29.com/" target="_blank">Studio 29</a> created the <a href="http://methodhomes.net/cottage-series/" target="_blank">Cottage Series</a> - a brand new line of prefab homes that feature the same level of dedication to resource conservation, energy efficiency and sustainability as the rest of Method's homes, just in a more classic style.

The Cottage Series developed from a collaboration between San Juan Islands-based <a href="http://www.s-29.com/" target="_blank">Studio 29</a> and Seattle prefab manufacturer, <a href="http://methodhomes.net/" target="_blank">Method Homes</a>.

Studio 29 was trying to come up with a more sustainable way to build houses for its clients and felt that prefab was the way to go, so they partnered up with Method and designed this craftsman-inspired line.

The series features six customizable home plans ranging from 1,436 to 2,265 square feet with anywhere from two to four bedrooms.

Each home features generous front porches and decks, loft-style sleeping spaces, balconies, wood stoves, optional master craftsman built-ins and detailing and additional sustainable features like <a href="http://inhabitat.com/solar-power/">solar panels</a>.

The Doe Bay Cottage is a 1,484 sq ft custom home based on <a href="http://methodhomes.net/cottage-series/" target="_blank">Plan 1</a> that contains two bedrooms, two sleeping lofts, and two bathrooms.

As for add-ons, the home features bamboo flooring, hydronic radiant heating, solar thermal collectors, and a solar PV system on the back roof.
