What do you get when you combine a giant zeppelin hangar with an extreme sports facility? You get the UP Lift building, a green-roofed multi-use complex that houses a blimp while making use of the exterior for recreational activities. OPEN Architecture came up with the concept for a design competition to build a hangar building in the serene landscape near Maan Mountain in Auhui Province, China.

    Good idea, I look forward to seeing it put into production. The idea of building a multi-use complex, is not so new and is already underway, a good example of can be seen here: http://www.big.dk/projects/amf/

    This is really cool. I typically cringe when I see Inhabitat articles on airships since they tend to be about designers or architects with no knowledge of aeronautical engineering designing completely unworkable ships that only muddy the water for practical designs trying to gain traction. This though, is great. If we can glean more revenue from facilities that are there anyways, the resurgence of this very eco-friendly mode of transport becomes that much more likely.
