MVRDV & Space Group Propose Plan for Green & Sustainable Growth in Norway

<a href="http://www.mvrdv.nl/" target="_blank">MVRDV</a> &amp; <a href="http://www.spacegroup.no/" target="_blank">Space Group</a> have jointly submitted a masterplan proposal for the growing Norwegian city of Stavenger. The urban masterplan includes housing, commercial and office space plus a large swath of green space and recreation opportunities. Carefully balanced to provide amenities and necessities for the booming town, the <a href="http://www.stavanger.kommune.no/Tilbud-tjenester-og-skjema/Publikasjoner/Madla-Revheim-plan-2424/" target="_blank">Madla-Revheim masterplan</a> will help the define the city and help it grow in a sustainable way.

Danish firm, <a href="http://inhabitat.com/tag/mvrdv" target="_blank">MVRDV</a> and Norwegian firm of <a href="http://www.spacegroup.no/" target="_blank">Space Group</a> joined as a team to envision a future growth pattern for Stavenger, Norway on the southwest coast.

The town, which is booming from growth in the off-shore oil business is examining ways in which to achieve sustainable development. MVRDV &amp; Space Group's plan is one of four plans the city is considering for the <a href="http://www.stavanger.kommune.no/Tilbud-tjenester-og-skjema/Publikasjoner/Madla-Revheim-plan-2424/Spennende-utstilling-/" target="_blank">Madla-Revheim</a> area to the south of the main city.

The city's goal of the project is to develop a sustainable growth model, envision housing, commercial sectors, plan for transportation and provide amenities for residents and visitors.

<a href="http://www.mvrdv.nl/#/projects/stavanger" target="_blank">MVRDV &amp; Space Group's plan</a> calls for a large area of green urban space surrounded by housing and commercial sectors on the outer ring. The core provides space for a large recreational area, a stadium and gardening co-ops for local residents.

Their plan is at once both urban and rural and combines the efficiency of a city with the health benefits of the countryside and the environment. The 780-acre site will provide space for 4,000 housing units.
