NAIAS 2013: Mercedes-Benz Debuts New Hybrid Version of 2014 E Class Sedan

Inhabitat is on the scene at the <a href="http://inhabitat.com/detroit-auto-show">2013 North American International Auto Show</a> in Detroit to bring you the newest and greenest cars on the market, and <a title="Mercedes-Benz" href="http://www.mbusa.com/mercedes/index" target="_blank">Mercedes-Benz</a> just unveiled their redesigned E-Class sedan, wagon, and convertible—including hybrid models set for release later this year. The primary powertrains will be a V-6 and V-8 rated at over 300 and 400 horsepower respectively, and a few months after the spring 2013 launch, the hybrid version will be available, which also produces over 300 horsepower (translation: plenty!) while maintaining a 27/30 mpg EPA rating. There is also a diesel option on its way that will feature 200 horsepower and improved emissions.

Mercedes has redesigned the grille and a few other exterior bits on the new E-Class, but for the first time ever customers can opt for two different faces on the E-Class.

The automaker continues to pack in new safety technology such as the Intelligent Drive stereo camera that keeps drivers safe on the road at night by detecting not only crossing vehicles and pedestrians in front of the car but in all directions around the vehicle.

We love the full LED lighting available on this new model, and the fact that Mercedes got Bruce Hornsby as well as actors Diane Kreuger and Joshua Jackson to unveil the new E-Class.

Long-time Daimler head Dieter Zetsche spoke about the brand's storied history, and commented when mentioning that a "higher power" endorsed the brand last year (the Pope had his new Mercedes Popemobile delivered), "That was pretty cool."
