Net Zero Savannah iHouse Opens For Tours At Green Bridge Farm
So far, Clayton Homes has built 9 iHomes around the country with their i-House 1.0 concept. These homes are all prefabricated and come with bamboo floors, Energy Star appliances, no VOC paint, CFL lighting, water saving fixtures, low e energy efficient windows, and composite decking from renewable sources. Each home is clad in low maintenance and durable materials like fiber cement board, metal siding, and metal roofs. The butterfly roof collects rainwater and directs it into a buried cistern near the home.
A geothermal heat pump provides energy efficient heating and cooling, while a solar system on the roof generates electricity for the home. Soon a wind turbine will be installed to meet the home’s total energy demand and provide enough power to charge a Chevy Volt, which has a plug on the exterior of the house. The owner and Clayton Homes will be holding an open house this weekend, August 12th & 13th, to show off the new home as well as the organic farm development on which it is located. Clayton Homes is currently working on the release of the iHouse 2.0, with upgraded features and a new design.
