Project ARQtainer's House LirayFive corten steel shipping containers were transformed into a bright yellow earthquake-proof home that sits on the outskirts of Santiago, Chile. The house, by Project ARQtainer, was developed as an earthquake-resistant and low-cost home that could be built in a small time frame. For the architects, shipping containers provided the ideal building material given their strength, durability, stackability, modular form and ample availability. Measuring a little over 1,200 square feet, the container home features thermal pane windows, internal coating plasterboard and projected cellulose insulation. Beautiful views of the Andes Mountains can be seen from both the terrace and shared living spaces, making nature an integral part of the design.1
