Today Global Solar unveiled a new type of flexible solar module that builders can stick directly on the roof, rather than constructing racks to hold heavy glass-covered cells. The modules won’t cost less than traditional arrays, at least initially, but they make it easier to include solar power at the time of construction and, without the racks, can cover a greater portion of the roof and provide more power.
The 19 foot-long modules employ cells made of copper, indium, selenium, and gallium. They’re a great fit for flat commercial roofs and perform relatively well in areas that don’t get direct sunlight. Up until now Global Solar has only sold cells to solar panel manufacturers. These flexible modules are the company’s first foray into building-integrated solar technology.

Pretty rad.
Even better because the federal credit for homeowners who install solar panels is pretty nice; it\’s 30% of the cost of solar panel installation.
And as long as it\’s installed between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2016, there is *no* maximum credit.
So $10,000 installation = $3,000 credit. Not bad. Just get multiple quotes from installers; shop around!
And a lot of the utilities and local municipalities offer free/low interest loans too.
