Nice Architects Win First Prize for Lush Parkhill Development in Bratislava

Slovak firm <a href="http://nicearchitects.sk/" target="_blank">Nice Architects</a> recently took first prize in the architectural and urban design competition for Parkhill, a new mixed use project near downtown Brataslava. The site sits adjacent to the Bratislava's urban forest and has been used as an open-air amphitheater. Working with <a href="http://www.2ka.sk/" target="_blank">2ka landscape architects</a>, Nice Architects came up with a suitable design that provides high-density housing while maintaining a lush, park-like atmosphere for use by area residents.

The <a href="http://nicearchitects.sk/sk/parkhill" target="_blank">Parkhill</a> location is currently an open air amphitheater in Bratislava, Slovakia near the city centre and an urban forest.

The steep site discourages traffic and slopes northward.

The southern part of the site has a small park that will be required to remain as public green space.

The hill has nice views of the city and is uniquely located to enjoy a bit of nature as well as a the urban life.

<a href="http://nicearchitects.sk/" target="_blank">Nice Architects</a> plan calls for a series of dense buildings with underground parking on the perimeter of the site.

The project consists of 60,000 sqm (645,835 sq ft) of new development that will house 350 apartments as well as administrative spaces, a hotel, and other public facilities.

The winning proposal balances the need for dense housing and high quality public spaces.

The plan calls for a green urban park in the middle of the site that then connects to the nearby urban forest.

Renderings of the project indicate that it will include green roofs, courtyards, gardens and vertical gardens.
